Codex in the ChatGPT desktop app, Codex CLI, and the Codex IDE extension share MCP configuration from ~/.codex/config.toml. Add Forvibe once, then authenticate with OAuth or an environment-backed Bearer token.

1

Add the server

bash
codex mcp add forvibe --url https://forvibe.app/mcp
2

Complete OAuth

bash
codex mcp login forvibe

Approve access in the Forvibe browser window. In a terminal without a browser, add --no-browser and follow the printed callback instructions.

3

Verify

bash
codex mcp list

Open a new Codex session, run /mcp to inspect the connection, then ask: Use Forvibe to list my projects. Reload the desktop app or IDE window if it was already open when you added the server.

Add it from the desktop UI

In the ChatGPT desktop app's Codex settings, open MCP servers → Add server, choose Streamable HTTP, enter the Forvibe URL, and authenticate. The saved entry is shared with Codex CLI and the IDE extension on the same machine.

Alternative: API key in config.toml

Export a key from Settings → API Keys, then configure the name of the environment variable rather than the key itself:

bash
export FORVIBE_API_KEY="fvk_live_..."
toml
[mcp_servers.forvibe]
url = "https://forvibe.app/mcp"
bearer_token_env_var = "FORVIBE_API_KEY"
tool_timeout_sec = 120

OAuth is easier to rotate and does not depend on the app inheriting your shell environment. Use the API-key form only when OAuth is unsuitable for the host environment.
